Introducing Pirates Aquatics
— launching September 2026
Cayman AquaLife Academy is launching a brand-new division: Pirates Aquatics — a programme that brings together pool swimming, ocean swimming, and water polo under one crew.
For our current water polo players and for our young swimmers getting ready to compete from September and into 2027, this is a real step up in how we train.
Why we're Adding Ocean Swimming
Open-water swimming is one of the best things a swimmer in Cayman can do, for three reasons:
First, it gets our swimmers comfortable and confident in the sea. That prepares them for all the open-water swims held here every year — the Flowers Sea Swim, the Butterfield Mile, and many more. These are part of growing up swimming in Cayman, and our swimmers will be ready for them.
Second, it builds serious fitness. The conditioning our swimmers gain in the ocean carries straight back into the pool and shows up when they race.
Third, with water polo built into the week, every swimmer gets early access to a second CARIFTA sport right here on the island. That's a door we want to open for our young athletes as early as possible.
The Three Tiers and Schedule
Pirates Water Polo (12 and over preferred)
Tuesday, Thursday & Friday — 4:00 to 6:30 PM — Governor's Beach
Saturday — 3:00 to 4:00 PM — Lions Pool (Sprint Clinic)
Splash Ball (ages 6 to 11/12)
Tuesday & Thursday — 3:30 to 4:00 PM — Governor's Beach
Pirate Swimming (our new swim team)
Tuesday & Thursday — 3:30 to 5:00 PM — Governor's Beach
Saturday — 3:00 to 4:00 PM — Lions Pool (Sprint Clinic)
The Saturday Sprint Clinic at Lions Pool is one hour of focused swim work, and it's highly beneficial to every Pirate — water polo players and swimmers alike.
About the Pirate Swim Team
The Pirate Swim Team is designed for younger swimmers who are advancing out of learn-to-swim and are ready to take the next step into competitive swimming.
Starting young lets us build the right habits, the right technique, and real meet experience from the very beginning.
We'd love to have your young pirate on board as we build this crew from the ground up.
How do we sign up?
2026 is already a big adventure with MANY swim meets, open water swims, water polo tournaments, international tours, and exciting experiences!
Please contact Coach Grant at [email protected] for more information or to sign up.
International Tours
Where have we been?
Battle of the Bay, Clearwater Florida
In October of 2024 we took 8 players to Florida to compete in water polo for the first time ever.
We joined forces with Next Level from Florida and this gave our players an oppurtunity to play the game by joining other existing teams.
It was a fantastic opportunity for our players, and opened the door for many international tours to follow!
Beast of the East, Orlando Florida
In December of both 2024 AND 2025 we took teams from a local school, John Gray High School, to compete internationally.
Again we joined the teams of Next Level and the boys played their hearts out.
We're learning and growing all the time, and these players made us all proud.
2025 shaped up to be a VERY exciting year!
Hosting International Teams
In March of 2025 we hosted Cayman Island's very first international tournament and teams from Florida came to the island to play water polo!
We played in front of the Sandbar in Georgetown and the entire event was SPECTACULAR. This will be an annual event and more teams from the Caribbean will take part.
CARIFTA Games
On Saturday 13 September we hosted the first ever trials for a national team to represent The Cayman Islands at the Carifta Games in Florida.
Another FIRST for the Island. Carifta 2025 Water Polo took place in Coral Springs, Florida, between 6 and 9 November.
We took be three teams - two girls teams and one boys team - ages 19/u and 16/u and returned home with 2 x bronze and one silver medals.
Other Travel Tours
Apart from Carifta, our teams squeezed in another international tour in 2025.
Between 3 and 5 October 16 players competed in the Nightmare on I-Drive Tournament in Orlando.
We took complete boys and girls teams to this event and the experience was invaluable before the Games.
With 2026 not far behind!
Cayman Classic Interschools League
Between the months of February and June of 2026, six schools participated in a water polo league.
We played a tournament in the ocean once a month and each one was more exciting than the last. Great water polo, great team work, and great sportmanship.
On 18 June we held the finals with Prep winning the League, St. Ignatius coming second, and Grace Christian Academy third. Well done to every player for showing up and for playing your heart out.
Thank you to all our volunteers and supporters for helping to make the league as EPIC as it was!
Always be Yourself.
unless you can be a Pirate
THEN ALWAYS BE A PIRATE.
